چکیده

We analyze a system consisting of two spherical particles immersed in a polydispersed polymer solution under theta conditions. An exact theory is developed to describe the potential of mean force between the spheres for the case where the polymer molecular weight dispersity is described by the Schulz-Flory distribution. Exact results can be derived for the protein regime, where the sphere radius (R(s)) is small compared to the average radius of gyration of the polymer (R(g)). Numerical results are relatively easily obtained in the cases where the sphere radius is increased. We find that even when q = R(g)/R(s) ⪆ 10, then the use of a monopole expansion for the polymer end-point distribution about the spheres is sufficient. For even larger spheres q ≈ 1, accuracy is maintained by including a dipolar correction. The implications of these findings on generating a full many-body effective interaction for a collection of N spheres imbedded in the polymer solution are discussed.

Depletion-induced forces and crowding in polymer-nanoparticle mixtures: Role of polymer shape fluctuations and penetrability.

Depletion forces and macromolecular crowding govern the structure and function of biopolymers in biological cells and the properties of polymer nanocomposite materials. To isolate and analyze the influence of polymer shape fluctuations and penetrability on depletion-induced interactions and crowding by nanoparticles, we model polymers as effective penetrable ellipsoids, whose shapes fluctuate a...

Phase stability of a reversible supramolecular polymer solution mixed with nanospheres.

Theory is presented for the phase stability of mixtures containing nanospheres and non-adsorbing reversible supramolecular polymers. This was made possible by incorporating the depletion thickness and osmotic pressure of reversible supramolecular polymer chains into generalized free-volume theory, recently developed for investigating the phase behaviour of colloidal spheres mixed with interacti...

Evaluation of Relative Membrane Permeability of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) Affected Super Absorbent Polymer and Water Deficit Conditions

Sorghum is among the most important forages used in arid and semi-arid regions of south-eastern Iran. Application of some materials such as super absorbent polymer (SAP) in soil can increase soil water storage capacity and increase water use efficiency. The aim of the study was to estimate the relative membrane permeability of sorghum under irrigation regimes and superabsorbent polymer applicat...

Prediction of Solvent Effect on Asphaltene Precipitation at Reservoir Conditions

The aim of the current study is to evaluate the effects of inhibitors or solvents on asphaltene precipitation under reservoir conditions. To this end, the interaction between live oil and solvent, and its side effects on precipitated/dissolved asphaltene were predicted via Miller’s entropy modified polymer solution theory under reservoir conditions. Then, the adjustable parameters of the model ...
